It is not lost on me that the Victorian era &#8220;marriage-market&#8221; films can be so well Indianised and look so natural in modern day India. Still Aisha does well with the casting &#8211; Sonam and Abhay Deol make a charming pair. Amrita Puri plays the Harriet Smith character. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Aisha was a real entertainer, all young love, chic details and snazzy music.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:50px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-columns is-layout-flex wp-container-core-columns-is-layout-9d6595d7 wp-block-columns-is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\" style=\"flex-basis:33.33%\">\n<p class=\"has-vivid-red-color has-text-color\"><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.fridaynirvana.com\/film\/2007\/09\/review-the-namesake-2.html\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"718\">The Namesake<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-drop-cap\">Now I couldn&#8217;t quite finish this book by Jhumpa Lahiri &#8211; it felt so very Bengali with details and little touches I couldn&#8217;t identify with. Dark and intense, Maqbool is a must-watch!<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:44px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-columns is-layout-flex wp-container-core-columns-is-layout-9d6595d7 wp-block-columns-is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\" style=\"flex-basis:33.33%\">\n<p class=\"has-drop-cap has-vivid-red-color has-text-color\"><strong>Junoon<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Shyam Benegal&#8217;s masterpiece Junoon is a gorgeous film based on Ruskin Bond&#8217;s &#8220;A Flight of Pigeons&#8221;. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Based on events of the partition, this film focusses on Javed Khan (Shashi Kapoor) and his love for Ruth Labrador (Nafisa Ali), a young English girl who seeks shelter with a Hindu family along with her mother Miriam when her father is killed at a church massacre. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\" style=\"flex-basis:66.66%\">\n<a href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.com\/dp\/B06XXZNP2Z?_encoding=UTF8&amp;btkr=1&amp;linkCode=li2&amp;tag=amosmovrev-20&amp;linkId=97a400d7425a5fe687d32de2fb0557e8&amp;language=en_US&amp;ref_=as_li_ss_il\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img decoding=\"async\" border=\"0\" src=\"\/\/ws-na.amazon-adsystem.com\/widgets\/q?_encoding=UTF8&amp;ASIN=B06XXZNP2Z&amp;Format=_ML160_&amp;ID=AsinImage&amp;MarketPlace=US&amp;ServiceVersion=20070822&amp;WS=1&amp;tag=amosmovrev-20&amp;language=en_US\"><\/a><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/ir-na.amazon-adsystem.com\/e\/ir?t=amosmovrev-20&amp;language=en_US&amp;l=li2&amp;o=1&amp;a=B06XXZNP2Z\" width=\"1\" height=\"1\" border=\"0\" alt=\"\" style=\"border:none !important; margin:0px !important;\">\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Miriam (Jennifer Kendall Kapoor) is against Javed&#8217;s overtures &#8211; he wants to marry Ruth and make her his second wife.
